Hello, my name is Ginny Olivas-Smith, and I am a part of the lighting specification team at The Lighting Agency in Denver, CO.
We want to welcome everyone into the new year! While 2021 was a year of uncertainty, where work and collaboration seemed to change its landscape daily, we are all hopeful that there is “light” at the end of this long tunnel!
Through adversity comes innovation and inspiration, and we here at TLA are excited to share what we see on the horizon for lighting trends in 2022.
Keep reading for my top three trends for 2022!
Trend #1 – Warmth & Sustainability
With so many of us having our work environment fall within our homes over the last two years, we recognize the vibe of warmth and sustainability continuing to make its way into design as we return to our spaces in a new way.
We are seeing natural and familiar materials like terracotta, oxidized metals, concrete, leather, wood, and natural stone being utilized in the design of light fixtures.
This stunner from CERNO is called SPERO which translates to HOPE, TRUST, and “to look forward to.” Its leather straps and metal dowels follow through with this inspiration of natural materials.
Familiar natural beauty is manifested in VALEO by CERNO with its walnut trunk and metal arm, bringing in soft light through its linen shade, like sunshine through the trees.
APLOMB by FOSCARINI presents long lasting, sustainable, and adaptable qualities of concrete in sculptural, organic silhouettes.
The warmth of natural cork and the dependability of aluminum create a balance of form and function in PILA by ESTILUZ.
Trend #2 – Adaptability & Flexibility
Over the past two years, the concept of the traditional office and retail space has been turned on its head as we have had to adapt to the idea of distance between us.
We have had to become flexible to our changing environments, sometimes at a moment’s notice.
With this, we see the concept of modular and future-proof systems becoming more visible in 2022!
The STRUT by WAC Lighting offers lighting without limits for your restaurant, commercial office, residential or retail space with the ability to interchange and move various fixtures along its track. This includes down lighting elements, pendant elements, and linear and wall washing elements, along with several different track mounting options.
This flexibility in design opportunity is also available with the ZERO TRACK system by FLOS
And last but not least, a trend we will continue to see in 2022 is…
Trend #3 – Light Disinfection & Safety
As we move forward and evolve through a time when our health has felt so vulnerable, LIGHT DISINFECTION continues to represent a key industry-wide trend.
Beyond operating rooms and healthcare applications, UV disinfection will become prevalent in educational facilities, retail environments, commercial offices, and hospitality.
