LZF Lamps New Manufacturer Spotlight: Wood Touched by Light

Nov 21, 2023 | News & Events, Products

We’re excited to introduce you to one of the newest members of the TLA Line Card: LZF Lamps.

Founded in 1994, the Spain-based company started manufacturing hand-made wood veneer lamps from a small studio in Valencia’s historic center. Since then, LZF has grown into a brand that doesn’t just create lighting—it creates ambiance.

All of us at TLA love the artistry, creativity, and collaborative approach LZF brings to its handmade wood lighting.

“We love shapes, colours, rhythms, fine materials, beauty, light, and enjoying our surroundings.” – LZF

And they mean every surrounding.

You might assume that LZF’s stunning decorative lighting is just for hospitality spaces. But we’ve seen these luminaires shine across the board and recommend specifying LZF’s versatile luminaires for a range of projects, including healthcare spaces, libraries, restaurants, offices, retail space, spas, showrooms, and even residential spaces.

Just scroll through their featured projects, and you’ll understand what we mean.

“When LZF reached out to us about representing them, I was immediately excited. I had seen their iconic designs over the years, and I knew our team would love to work with them.

Not only do they have beautiful designs, but they also have a great sustainability practice, beautiful and meticulous craftsmanship, and collaborate with so many great designers from around the world.

We’re looking forward to working with the Colorado design community and teaching them about LZF and their story.”

– Ryan Stewart, TLA Principal

Let’s look at some of TLA’s top picks to get you started! And be sure to reach out to us about specifying LZF Lamps in your next Colorado lighting project.

1. Swirl: The soulful light

Swirl excites the eye with its eddying and whirling folds, their twisting twirl a sensuous feat. Designed by Ray Power, Swirl is an accomplished pendant, its form thoughtfully considered and sculptured.

With a soulful character and presence, the Swirl lamp will vibe well with any interior.

We love Swirl Suspension and see such a wide range of applications where this luminaire could shine—especially with its range of colorful veneer choices.

The Swirl pendant was accorded a Special Mention by the German Design Council.

2. Osca: The cubist light

Designed by Bodo Sperlein, the Osca family consists of two suspension versions and one table lamp, all offering a unique cubist aesthetic.

In the Osca suspension lamp, simple, interlocking three-dimensional wood veneer arches face both upwards and downwards, giving the lamp a uniquely sculptural form.

We know this luminaire choice is sure to create drama with its sculptural appearance of light and shadow.

3. Dune: The amorphous light

Dune is an intriguing sculptural light with a unique amorphous shape.

Designed by Madrid-based Mayice, Dune is a single piece of hand-blown borosilicate glass, enveloping a wood veneer diffuser with a seedpod-like opening on one side.

We see endless applications for the Dune Horizontal Suspension, but what we admire most is how each lamp is unique.

The glass is hand-blown by Eduardo Garuti, an accomplished artisan who expertly reveals the beautiful properties of glass through this luminaire.

The beauty found in the imperfection of hand-blown glass, with its almost wabi-sabi quality, gives Dune the role of a piece of art in your project.

Dune is now also available in a striking vertical version.

4. Link: The infinite light

Designed by Ray Power, Link is an intelligent light whose layered wood veneer strips are akin to the Möbius strip (in mathematics, a surface with one continuous side, like an infinite loop).

Link’s billowy, cloud-like structure ensures this luminaire is a captivating feature in any space.

The Link Suspension lamp is available in small and large sizes. We think that the Link Suspension is equally striking alone or as part of a large cluster.

And oh the colors to choose from! Link is available in a range of stunning wood veneers: Natural Cherry, Ivory White, Natural Beech, Yellow, Orange, Red, Blue, Grey, Pale Rose, and Sea Blue.

5. I-Club: The symmetrical light

Designed by Burkhard Dämmer, I-Club epitomizes the use of clean lines in good design. And you know we’re all about that!

Functional and beautiful. Available as a Short or Long lighting fixture, the I-Club Slim Suspension has the option of a black or white top diffuser (black preventing any upward light), and a matt satin acrylic bottom diffuser.

This sharp and elegant lamp is especially ideal for any environment requiring directional, downward lighting, for example, above a desk or kitchen surface.

There’s much to choose from when it comes to I-Club’s striking wood veneers: Natural Cherry, Ivory White, Natural Beech, Yellow, Orange, Red, Blue, Grey, Pale Rose, and Sea Blue.

6. Bird: The fledgling light

We simply couldn’t talk about LZF without mentioning its iconic luminaire, Bird.

Designed by Isidro Ferrer, Big Bird and its smaller companion Birdy are unconventional showstoppers that illustrate LZF’s innovative, artistic approach to lighting. In fact, they help us reimagine just what a lamp can be.

These life-size models are made with a classic Valencian woodcarving technique called vareta, in collaboration with master Fallas artisan Manolo Martin. In vareta, fine wooden strips are used to reproduce the shape (or ‘skin’) of the object they reflect—like feathers or even scales.

Suspended in flight, Bird holds a striking globe of light, inviting our imaginations to soar along with it.
